Blu Furutate

Performing Artist

A Japanese New Yorker, Blu Furutate (she/her) is in her final year at The Juilliard School under the direction of Alicia Graf Mack and Mario Alberto Zambrano. Furutate graduated from LaGuardia Arts High School and completed her pre-professional training on merit-based scholarship at The Ailey School, French Academie of Ballet, and MOVE|NYC| Young Professionals Program. In 2021, she was named Dance Spirit Magazine’s March Cover Model Search Winner. Furutate was the inaugural recipient of The Obremski/Works VISION Fellowship in 2022 and has been a performing artist with Obremski/Works, an AAPI-emphasized nonprofit directed by Jesse Obremski, since 2021. She has attended summer programs with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, The School at Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Program, Orsolina28, Arts Umbrella, B12, and Peeping Tom at Amsterdam Summer Intensive. At Juilliard, Furutate performed works by Johannes Wieland, Camille A. Brown, and Shen Wei. She has worked with artists including Bryan Arias, Greg Lau, Bret Easterling, Caili Quan, Darrell Grand Moultrie, and Micaela G. Taylor. In 2023, she had the wonderful opportunity to perform a solo by Sidra Bell, specifically commissioned by Gina Gibney for the Gibney Gala: Ready and Rising. As a creative, Furutate has premiered her choreographic work through Juilliard’s Choreographers and Composers in 2024 and is very excited about Senior Production 2025.

Furutate joined Obremski/Works in 2021.
