DANCE ENTHUSIAST: IMPRESSIONS: OBREMSKI/WORKS AT ARTS ON SITE

JUNE 18TH, 2024 BY CECLY PLACENTI

“Ranging from elastic, frenzied, oozing, percussive, airy and grounded, Obremski’s choreography is qualitatively rich. The dancers, all masters of their craft, are able to move between these contrasting aspects with breathtaking fluency. In their first full evening, Obremski/Works already displays a signature style and emotional resonance that I look forward to seeing more of.”

At Obremski/Works, we take immense pride in establishing an inclusive space that fosters creativity, diversity, and equity.

As an AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) equity-minded organization, we exist to showcase the richness and beauty of AAPI cultures through the contemporary field, while promoting equitable opportunities and representation within the artistic realm for AAPI folks.

Our organization is a vibrant hub of talented movers, collaborative creators, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts who come together to create mind-broadening performances and captivating experiences. With a deep respect and understanding of the vibrant tapestry of AAPI dance cultures, we continuously bring forward AAPI artists through the contemporary lens to challenge established norms and challenge ourselves to create works that support a lasting impact on our audiences and artists.

By diving into Obremski/Works, you immerse yourself in a community where voices and perspectives are valued. We believe that the power of movement contains not only physical abilities, connection, and expertise but also in the stories we tell. By shedding light on the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of AAPI communities, we aim to dismantle stereotypes and foster empathy and understanding.

Obremski/Works is not just a movement company; it is a catalyst for change. The organization consists of two equal cornerstones, the Company and Fellowships, which are the vehicles toward this social change and AAPI equity-minded work. By raising awareness about social issues affecting AAPI communities, we use the arts as a platform for advocacy and activism.

we invite you to join Obremski/works towards an AAPI equity-minded community and culture, where we can redefine our communal narrative to create and sustain a more empathetic future.
